Under 13 Inter-county match at Kingston

At the Inter-County under 13 match held on Sunday at Kingston we had both Mia Russell and Oli Stuart representing Sussex. This match is for teams from the south-east of England and will include some of the very best young athletes in the country. Essex, Middlesex, Surrey and Kent, in particular, tend to have strong teams at this age-group (and indeed at most age-groups).

Mia Russell was the Sussex B string girls long-jumper with a best before this match of 4.25 metres. She didn’t quite jump as far on Sunday but wasn’t far behind with 4.13 metres which gave her 8th place. Oli Stuart, after his 4.77 metres in the Sussex Championships a few weeks ago, was just a little below this with 4.61 metres which earned him 6th place in the boys A string long jump. The winner, from Essex, jumped 5.44 metres.

Oli was also competing in his better event, the 75 metres hurdles. Because there were 13 teams taking part all the sprint races had to be split into 2. Oli was running in the second race and was a close second in 12.28 seconds. The winner of the first race, again an Essex athlete, recorded 11.43 seconds and put him well ahead of all other under 13 boys in the country. When the 2 races were combined Oli was an excellent third in the A string.

I am still waiting for the full results from Sunday’s match for under 17s and under 20s at Erith and I’ll update you when I can.
