Results from Crawley and Havering Open Meetings

I now have the results from the weekend’s Open Meetings. On Saturday at Crawley it was good to see some of the younger athletes in action. Under 11 Lucy Rogers did 11.51 seconds in her 60 metres race and long-jumped 2.25 metres (later dad Phil jumped a little bit further with a best of 5.07 metres). Under 13 Dylan Holland did well to win the 1500 metres in 5 minutes 18.76 seconds while Paddy Mayo also ran well to come third in a busy 1200 metres race in 4 minutes 26.51 seconds.

Amber West – first year under 15 – went over 4 metres in the long jump for the first time with a best of 4.04 metres. And she also did 11.54 seconds in the 80 metres. Vicki Pellett was busy all day throwing things. 9.22 metres in the shot putt with the new under 15 weight of 3k put her first after a new pb in the hammer with 25.14 metres (beating her own under 15 club record from 2013). However she was probably not too pleased with her discus throw of 17.43 metres.

George Martin competed for the first time, in the under 17 age-group, and brought home a couple of decent performances – 8.16 metres with the 5k shot and 19.15 seconds in the 150 metres. The 150 metres races also saw Phil Rogers speeding round in 19.51 seconds. And to complete the Crawley details Abby Beswick and Lois Drummie ran in the same under 17 150 metres races – Abby just dipping under 20 seconds with 19.95 seconds and Lois finding the second part of the race hard work to finish in 21.03 seconds.

Then on Sunday Abby went over the River Thames to the county of Essex where she competed in the Havering Open meeting on the Hornchurch track. And she did us proud with 3 first places. A new pb in the 100 metres with 13.0 seconds followed by 12.3 seconds in the 80 metres hurdles. And a new outdoors pb in the long jump with 4.95 metres. Let’s hope an outdoor 5 metres is not far away (Abby has jumped 5.18 metres indoors.)
