Completed the London 2 Brighton Challenge 2014!!!
The spirit and determination shown by so many over the wet Bank Holiday weekend amazed me. The rain and mud certainly added to the challenge – Plumpton and Bexhill cross country mud had nothing on this course. Along footpaths that were overgrown/tree roots/fallen trees/thick mud/slippery tracks/numerous stiles/wooden bridges. Carried a back pack all the way with spare clothes/drink/food.
Had an interview on my mobile phone with Radio Sussex (also went out on Radio Surrey’s news) at 6:40am just before the warm up.
At Tulleys Farm had hot food + a great massage from a young lady! From Wivelsfield it was dark and could not find my head torch but had a spare hand torch fortunately. There was glow sticks to mark the way even through woodland and over the South Downs after Plumpton College. Never had to resort to the maps as route was really well marked out. Finished just before 2am on Sunday (started at 7am)
Finish Time: 18:48:57
71% of 100km challengers completed the full distance. Fastest time 9hr 12min – new challenge record!
A big thank you to everyone who supported me and Young Epilepsy.
Now 62 years old – Next challenge?
