Back from holiday – trying to catch up

I’ve been on holiday for the last few weeks and have a lot of catching up to do. We went to Canada and to South-East Alaska and there were a couple of athletics-related things that we came across.

We flew from Heathrow to Edmonton in Canada and stopped overnight. It so happened that the Canadian National Athletics Championships were taking place at that time in Edmonton and our hotel was one of the official hotels for athletes and coaches. I managed to chat to one of the athletes in the lift, who was going on to run in the under 20 ladies 1500 metres semi-final later that day. I wonder how she did ?

And then later on in the holiday I met an American who was a pole vault coach and also a qualified field judge. The USA doesn’t have the sort of club athletics system that we do and most of their athletics is done at school and university level. He wasn’t expecting to do any more judging for the rest of the summer.

Future matches/Open Meetings

With the schools now having broken up we have more or less run out of league matches. The senior team have their last match on Saturday August 15 in Bournemouth while the under 15s and under 13s have their final matches in early September. However there are a number of Open Meetings coming up during August and I’ll do my best to keep you all informed. There is an Open Meeting on Sunday August 9 at Horsham which I can certainly recommend to you all.

And also in September we have the Sussex and Surrey Combined Events Championships and we will be looking to get a number of our athletes ready for this – we have enjoyed quite a bit of success in these championships over the last few years.

What’s happening over this coming week ?

Tuesday July 28 – training for all at Imberhorne from 7pm.

Thursday July 30 – training for all at Imberhorne from 7pm.

Saturday August 1 – academy training at Imberhorne from 10.30.

Saturday August 1 – possible long/triple jump session at Imberhorne from 10.
