Last matches of the summer season coming up (updated for Bank Holiday Monday results)

Results from Bank Holiday Monday’s Open Meeting at Crawley

It was good to see seven of our athletes competing at K2 on Monday amidst some rather miserable weather. Under 11 Tallulah Sullivan was busy all day with runs in the 75 metres (12.31 seconds), 150 metres (24.26) and 600 metres (2 minutes and 4.63 seconds), while Abby Beswick also did 3 events, winning the 100 (12.34) and 200 (25.26) plus a long jump of 5.31 metres.

Among the boys Callum Stone ran another quick 1500 metres in 4 minutes and 51.84 seconds while Ethan Carrick did the under 15 100 (13.00) and 200 (26.40) with Jamie Holme doing the same events in the under 17 age-group. Jamie did a pb in the 100 of 11.67 seconds – the fastest by any of our male athletes this summer – and won the 200 in 23.68 seconds.

Two of our older athletes also took part with Wayne Gadd (over 40) high jumping 1.65 metres and long jumping 5.32 metres. Phil Spivey threw the over 50 hammer of 6K 55.05 metres – in our league matches he throws the 7.26K hammer.

Fixtures over next weekend

The summer season is coming towards its end and we have our final two matches of the season coming up over the next weekend. On the evening of Friday September 4 our under 15 athletes will compete in their final at the Withdean Stadium in Brighton. I haven’t seen a timetable as yet, but I imagine that the match will start at about 6pm.

Then two days later on Sunday September 6 the under 13s have their final match at Crawley’s K2 stadium. First event is at 12.30 and Phil Rogers will be contacting you all with more details of the match.

Combined Events Championships on September 12 and 13 at Sutton

We have a good number of athletes taking part in theses Championships, but there is still time to enter. Look at the Sussex AAA website for entry details, or contact either Lester Medcalf or Alf Smart.
