News from Bexhill’s mud

Sussex County Cross-Country Championships

The Bexhill cross-country course is muddy at the best of times, but with the recent heavy rain it was muddier than it has ever been for the cross-country races held yesterday (January 9). We still had a number of athletes willing to run through the mud.

In the early under 11 girls race Maddie Sims earned an excellent third place and a little later Callum Stone was fourth in the under 13 boys race, with Cameron Wells also running well. Antonia Deeley, Erin Harnett and Naomi Insole all finished their races covered in mud. Well done to all those who took part.

Mid-Sussex Primary Schools races this coming Wednesday at East Court

A number of our members will be helping with this coming Wednesday’s (January 13) Mid-Sussex primary schools race at East Court – although with the amount of rain that we’ve had the fields might be too waterlogged for the races.

The top athletes from our own East Grinstead primary school races last October will be representing East Grinstead against teams from Haywards Heath/Burgess Hill as well as a team from the village primary schools. The girls race starts at 1.15 and the boys at 1.45.

If the course is too wet for the races to be held then they will take place on Wednesday January 27.

Indoor athletics

The first 10 weeks or so of 2016 will see a number of indoor athletics meetings taking place, in preparation for the 2016 summer season. Abby Beswick will be taking part in the South of England championships at Lee Valley over this coming weekend. She will be taking part in the hurdles, among other events, and this will be her first time over the hurdles since the 2014 summer season. We wish her well.

The Sussex and Surrey Indoor Championships will take place over the weekend of February 20 and 21 at Sutton and we hope that a number of you will be looking to take part. I will give out entry forms when they are available.
