News from Sussex and Surrey Cross-Country Championships

County Cross-Country Championships news

Well done to all our runners in the Sussex and Surrey Cross-Country championships on Saturday (January 7). We had 7 runners in the Sussex Championships at Little Common. Rowan Englishby-Allen was 20th in the under 11 boys race and Emma Wood 14th in the girls under 11 race. We had 4 boys in the under 13 boys race with Cameron Wells 26th and George Collingwood 2 places behind Cameron. Isaac Lancaster then came home in 41st place with Noah Englishby-Allen in his first race since breaking his leg last year coming 48th.

Antonia Deeley came a very good 13th in the under 15 girls race and she will be in the same age-group next winter.

We had 2 runners in the Surrey Championships in Croydon, both in the under 13 boys race. Ethan Scott was an excellent 4th in the race with Charlie Polton a little bit further back. Ethan will now run for Surrey in the National Cross-Country championships later in the winter. Both Ethan and Charlie will be under 13s next winter.

Training has re-started after Christmas

Our regular training sessions re-started last week, although the very heavy frost on Thursday evening meant that we couldn’t use the track at Imberhorne as it was too slippery. Nevertheless we had over 30 athletes able to put in some 40 minutes of work elsewhere at the school.

In contrast the first jumping session of the year on Saturday morning at Imberhorne took place in very mild and still conditions as the jumpers re-gained their familiarity with the sand-pit.

What’s happening in the coming week ?

Tuesday 10 January – circuits training in Imberhorne gym. 7.30 to 8.30.

Thursday 12 January – Thursday evening training at Imberhorne from 7 to 8.15.

Saturday 14 January – long/triple jump session at Imberhorne from 10 to 11.30.

Sunday 15 January – Sunday morning training at East Court re-starts. 10.30 to 11.45.
