Lots happening last week

A busy week before the school summer holidays start

All sorts of things going on in the last week. A great evening last Tuesday when we didn’t do any training but instead held a pizza and rounders evening at Imberhorne. Lots of mums and dads – mostly sitting and talking – and athletes being slightly more active than their parents. Thanks to Belinda Sims for making it all happen.

Then Thursday evening at Horsham for the under 13s – though a number of school functions left us very short of athletes. Maddie Sims perhaps the pick of our athletes with wins in the high jump and javelin but everybody there worked hard. The grand final is being held on SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 3 at K2.

24 hours later it was back to Horsham for the under 15 match. For the first time that I can remember we were able to fill every event – both A and B strings – for the boys with some non-scoring as well, while the girls nearly matched that but had 3 gaps. Great to see so many blue and yellow vests.

And then on Sunday our under 17 and under 20 athletes joined forces with athletes from Lewes, Haywards Heath and Eastbourne for their last match of the season at Croydon. Highlight was Lois Drummie’s discus throw of 29.52 metres – the second longest female discus throw in the club’s history. 29.81 metres by Sarah Butler in 2002 is the best. Perhaps Lois will beat it in the last senior match in August ??
