Sussex Schools Combined Events Championships on Wednesday May 30
Cameron Wells was our only entry for the Sussex Schools Combined Events championships at K2, competing in the junior boys category (school years 8 and) and he did extremely well to win the silver medal for second place. Out of the 5 events he produced pbs in 4 of them – just the long jump missed out. In particular 1.59 metres in the high jump and 2 minutes 16.3 in the 800.
Under 15 match at Horsham last Friday evening
Half term week meant that we were missing a few under 15 athletes but we were able to field 8 boys and 6 girls. We are seldom likely to challenge Crawley or Horsham in this league – though we did beat Horsham once in 2017 – and this again proved to be the case as we finished in third place. Cameron Wells was again in good form, this time in the pole vault with 2.90 metres, although our only first places came from the girls with B string wins for Ella West in the 100 metres and Ingrid Clemo in the 800 metres. However much more significant were the 22 personal bests.
Next match in this league is on Friday July 6 – and not Friday June 30 as we have previously thought.
Sussex Masters Championships
A couple of second places for Phil Rogers in the over 45 long and triple jump events at the Sussex Masters Championships at Esher on Sunday.
Sussex School Championships this coming Saturday June 9 at K2
Our only competition this coming weekend is the Sussex Schools Competition – strictly not a club match at all but we will have a small number of athletes representing their school.
Matches in the next couple of weeks
On the evening of THURSDAY JUNE 14 our under 13 athletes (school years 6 and 7) will compete in the second midweek league match of the summer at Horsham. Suzie Shelley is the team manager and has been contacting all of our under 13 athletes. There will be no training that evening at Imberhorne for under 13 athletes.
Then on SUNDAY JUNE 17 our under 13 and under 15 athletes will be travelling by coach for their match at Woodford in Essex. We were very disappointed at the number of athletes who came to the previous match in Walthamstow and we hope for more athletes (and their parents) to come to this match.
