Catching up with last week and looking forward to next week

Sussex Under 13 and under 11 quadkid championships on Saturday June 30

A hot sunny day with lots of blue and yellow vests in sight – thanks to all of you who competed in such good numbers. Not too many medals but well done to Mya Lake second in the 100 metres, Grace McCullough second in the shot and a bronze medal for Bella Kilkenny and Jess Wilson, along with Mya and Grace, in the 4 x 100 relay. Some near misses with fourth places for Mya in the discus and Jason Sullivan in both the 200 metres and the shot.

Under 17/20 Match on Sunday July 1

We didn’t have too many athletes at this match on another hot and sunny day – and all the other clubs seemed to be similarly affected. Rebekah Tyler won the under 17 discus with a pb of 23.97 metres with Jack Sanders over 9 metres for the first time in the shot (as well as equalling his pb in the javelin). And Dorian Szatmari was again over 6 metres in the long jump.

Under 15 match on Friday evening July 6 and under 17 inter-county match on Sunday July 8

I don’t have details of the Friday evening match as yet but will let you know when I do. We also have Erin Harnett (200 metres) and Dorian (long jump) selected for Sussex in an inter-county match at Lee Valley and I’ll bring you news when I can.

Matches over next couple of weeks

On the afternoon of Saturday July 14 Cameron Wells will be competing in the English Schools Championships in Birmingham. His junior boys pole vault is due to start at 3pm and we wish him well. At much the same time on Saturday July 14 our senior team will be in action at the Erith track. Team managers Eddie Vermeer and Lester Medcalf will be in touch in the next few days.

Then in the following week we will have an under 13 match (school years 6 and 7) on the evening of Thursday July 19 at Horsham followed a couple of days later on Saturday July 21 by a match for under 13s and under 15s (school years 6 to 9) at Woodford – another coach trip I expect.

Tuesday July 10 – training for all at Sackville School from 7 to 8.15. THIS TUESDAY IS NOW AT IMBERHORNE BECAUSE OF MUSIC DO AT SACKVILLE.
