Match on Wednesday May 26 at Lewes
We had 11 athletes competing on Wednesday evening down in Lewes. A number of good performances as I will talk about in a moment – but why weren’t more of our athletes taking part and getting some competition under their belts ?
In his first competition since joining the club a few weeks ago under 15 Ollie Strange produced a couple of excellent sprints – 13.28 in the 100 and 26.67 in the 200. I look forward to improvements over the next few weeks. Sisters Nell and Mia Mackie – in their first competitions – also did well on the track.
Our throwers all made improvements over their previous throws a few weeks ago at K2. Under 17 Oscar Staples over 20 metres in the hammer, under 15s Albert Holroyd and Harry Rogers a bit further in the discus – and perhaps more noteworthy was Archie Kessell’s under 15 javelin. 22.64 metres was his best 2 weeks ago at K2 and here in Lewes his best throw was………..22.64 metres once again !
And under 13s Ashleigh Levett and Alexander Stafford in their first runs on a proper track did well as they started their track and field career.
Match coming up next Saturday June 5 at K2
Our under 13s and under 15s start their league season this coming Saturday at K2. None of the under 13s will have competed before – and some (but not all) of the under 15s will also be competing for the first time.
If you are comfortable with computers can you help us at next Saturday’s meeting ?
If you are then we’d love to hear from you as we need somebody to record the results at the meeting on Saturday June 5. Talk to Phil Rogers please.
Meeting at K2 for under 13s on Thursday June 10
There will be another opportunity for under 13 athletes (years 6 and 7) to compete on the evening of Thursday June 10 at K2. You can do whatever events you’d like to do and it is up to you (or your mum and dad) to make an entry. See the Sussex AAA website for more information. Entries close on Thursday June 3 – so there isn’t much time for you to enter yourself. There will be NO training for under 13s at Imberhorne Upper School that evening, though training for older athletes will be as normal.
Training this week
We know it’s half-term but it will be training as usual this coming week. Tuesday at Sackville from 6.30 to 7.30 and Thursday at Imberhorne Upper School from 7 to 8. And our academy (school years 4 and 5) will be at Imberhorne Upper School on Saturday morning from 11 to 12.
I understand that on Tuesday evening at Sackville our academy athletes (years 4 and 5) will join us for a 600 metres run – the distance they will have to run later in the summer at their Sussex Quadkids event.
